DIY Home Decor: No Sew Pillow Covers

Pinterest has been a blessing and a curse for me. Sometimes looking at all the beautiful photos makes me crave things I can’t have, like a new kitchen or a car covered in pink glitter. But sometimes I get inspired by great DIY ideas like no sew pillow covers that are perfect for helping me make inexpensive and quick updates to my home!

Here are the pillows that came with my sofa set a few years ago:

I hate them. I kept meaning to replace them, but throw pillows are really expensive, or at least more than I’m willing to pay for something that doesn’t serve much function.

Here they are now:

Much better, right? And so much cheaper than buying new pillows. I used Heat n Bond which I had leftover from when I made my own baby mobile, but you can get a roll of it or tape for about $11.50. I paid $6.99 for four cloth napkins, which means I made two no sew pillow covers for less than $20!

How to Make No Sew Pillow Covers

What you’ll need:

  • 2 throw pillows
  • 4 cloth napkins
  • Heat n Bond, cut into 8 strips .5″ wide, or 8 strips of fusible tape

Directions

  1. Wash and iron the napkins.
  2. Apply the Heat N Bond strips or tape to all four sides of one napkin.
  3. Line up the edges of another napkin on top.
  4. Iron 3 of the sides to form a seal.
  5. Drop the pillow into the top, and seal the final edge.

That’s it! The entire project took me about 15 minutes, and that included handling my “helper.”

If you’re feeling fancy, there are a number of ways you can dress up this project or change it slightly to make it a little more stylish:

  • use two different patterned napkins for reversible fun.
  • use ribbons to make an edge or layered pattern on the front.
  • hand stich an “envelope” to enclose a small pillow.

My favorite part is how easy these are to wash quickly, or change out seasonally! I can’t wait to do this again, but for now I’m enjoying the new look in my living room.
